KENT, WA January 18th, 2007 - Bike riding season in the Puget Sound has been re-opened by the BDOS (Benaroya Department of Safety). In the last 24 hours the National Avalanche Institute lowered the local avalanche danger to low and the Ice Factor Organization is only reporting collar-bone-breaking ice patches in shaded areas. While the thaw has brought relief to the area a chain ring & cog set grinding sand warning has been issued for the next 48 hours.
In other news, The Benaroya Elite cross county team has been hard at it. Russy Stevenson is burning up the tracks secretly aiming towards entering some races in the near future. Although not confirmed, the Hanson brothers have raced in 20 races as of yesterday. Mr. Gardner was seen on the entry list for a 30k classic race last weekend. No confirmation of his GC placing as of press time. Mr. Brown will be doing a 30k skate race this weekend. Choose your wax wisely.
Mr. Buckeye has been given a penalty for violating the BDOS lock down last week. He rode nearly every day using resourceful tactics. Drafting snow plows, bribing his state troop neighbor into motor pacing & taking up the entire right lane on HWY 3, following sand trucks and having the jetdry blowers for the future NASCAR track in Kitsap to dry a 10 mile loop near his house.
He was warned not to ride for risk of breaking his collar bone and missing the key early season classics. He managed to stay upright so management will be breaking his collar bone this Sunday as punishment.
Weekend riding. Mid 40's with chances of a few showers. Back to normal. Chime in if you are riding, from where and what time.
Have one....Andy
